Anywhere where there is vegetation. Ethanol is an intoxicating by-product of fermentation, which is caused by yeast acting on sugars. So alcohol can occur quite naturally in hedgerows and forests, for example as over-ripe fruit or vegetables start to ferment. Domestically produced alcohol tends to come from a few common sources such as wine from rice and grapes, beer from hops and vodka from grain and potatoes or beets.
