Addiction: Heroin

How can heroin users beat their addiction?

Naltrexone
Back

Firstly, a detox is started, to eliminate heroin from the body. Other drugs can be used to make this process easier. Methadone is often used as a heroin substitute, as it's a similar opioid but appears to have fewer harmful effects. However, it is still addictive, and various new drugs are now being tried. Subutex is one of these, and also Naltrexone. This is an opioid receptor antagonist, which means that it blocks or weakens the effects of opioids such as heroin.
