The Miracle of Stairwell B

More4 Mon 10 Sept 2007 9pm

It was the most incredible story of 9/11; how 12 fire-fighters, a police officer and an office worker survived inside the North Tower of the World Trade Centre as it collapsed on top of them. In this one-hour film the survivors describe hearing the floors above them giving way, one after another. Convinced that they were about to die they shared what they assumed were their last thoughts. They then endured burial under half a million tons of debris but were able to contact the outside world when all hope seemed lost. Eventually they emerged into the post-apocalyptic landscape of Ground Zero, the only survivors to walk out of the wreckage.

Millionaire Widows

More4 Mon 10 Sept 2007 10pm

In a series of emotional testimonies, news footage and personal archive, 9/11: Millionaire Widows relates the poignant stories of those who continue to suffer five years on.

Billions of dollars of compensation were handed out to the relatives of the 9/11 victims. This money was meant to ease the suffering, but for many it has actually ruined their lives for a second time. This film relates four emotive stories: from the broken family torn apart, to a single mother's desperate fight for recognition; and from a woman's battle with her partner's relatives, to a scorned ex-wife whose fire-fighter husband left her for the newly rich widow of his dead colleague.

9/11: The Five Year Anniversary

Sat 28 Oct 2006 at 9.10pm

On September 11, 2001, filmmakers Jules and Gedeon Naudet were making a documentary about a rookie New York City fire-fighter when they noticed a low-flying plane overhead. The fire-fighter and the Naudets rushed immediately to the scene where they filmed throughout 9/11 and the days afterward from the firemen's perspectives, resulting in an Emmy Award-winning documentary. For the fifth anniversary of 9/11 the film-makers revisited the scene of the original documentary. The newly updated film features previously unseen footage, and interviews with some of the fire-fighting heroes.

Liars

C4 Wed 13 Sept 2006 10pm

In the aftermath of one of the darkest days in US history a handful of American citizens set about exploiting 9/11 for their own personal gain. For America and the world the events of 9/11 were hugely traumatic. But while most of the population united in grief, opportunism got the better of a tiny handful. This documentary tells the stories of the people who lied in the wake of a national catastrophe.
