Channel 4's new 30 minute documentary strand for new directors is called First Cut. It starts in the middle of November.
On FourDocs, you can now read interviews with the directors of two of the fifteen new films - Tim Wardle's In Search of Mr Average and Joshua Neale's Karaoke Soul
The 15 films are all very different, and represent the whole range of approaches to documentary, from ob-docs to 'spoof' docs. They're a real treat, and show a real determination to take risks with this strand.
If you'd like to apply for next year's First Cut batch, then Sarah is currently calling for you. Take a look here for what she's looking for and who you need to be. It goes without saying that this is a really unique opportunity for new directing talent to get a substantial prime-time slot.
