Wontons look and taste out of this world but Lucy Mitchell at oriental food supplier See Woo insists they can easily be created by the amateur cook. When you've mastered the wonton you can even try using them in this tasty soup from See Woo.

Ingredients

  • 230g minced pork
  • 230g prawns
  • 1 tsp ginger powder
  • 1 tsp wheat flour
  • 1 tsp potato starch
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Ground white pepper, to taste
  • A few drops of sesame oil
  • Wonton wrappers
  • Packet of noodles

Method: How to make wontons

1. Mince the prawns. Combine the pork and prawns with the ginger powder, wheat flour, potato starch, granulated sugar, salt, white pepper and sesame oil.

2. To fill the wontons, lay one wonton wrapper in front of you and damp all the edges of the wonton wrapper with water. Place a heaped tsp of wonton filling in the centre and twist to seal. The final result should look like a drawstring purse.

3. For the soup: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the wontons and boil for 5 – 8 minutes, or until the filling is cooked through. Add the noodles and stir, continue cooking for a further 3 minutes and serve.
