Spiced and buttered crab is a delightfully easy and tasty dish. It makes a great starter, perhaps as a lighter alternative to potted crab, or could be eaten as a light meal with a salad and French bread.

Serves 6
Ready in 15 minutes

Nutritional Information

Per serving:
200kcals
15g fat (5.1g saturated)
15.5g protein
0.7g carbs
0.3g sugar
0.9g salt

Ingredients

  • 2 hard-boiled eggs, finely chopped
  • 400g fresh white crabmeat
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 40g butter, melted
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper, plus extra to sprinkle
  • Large pinch of ground allspice
  • 1 pink shallot, thinly sliced
  • Small handful of fresh basil leaves

Method: How to make spiced and buttered crab

1. Put the eggs, crab, mayonnaise, butter and spices into a bowl. Mix and season to taste. Divide between 6 small bowls or ramekins. Chill until ready to serve.

2. Top each serving with a few slivers of shallot, some fresh basil and a sprinkling of cayenne pepper. Serve with warm French bread or toast.
