A cheeky hot buttered rum recipe for a warming Bonfire Night toddy.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups unrefined cane sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 3 sticks cinnamon
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups rum
  • heavy cream, whipped
  • ground nutmeg for topping

Method: How to make hot buttered rum

1. Put everything except rum, cream and nutmeg into a big pot.

2. Add ½ pint hot water.

3. Stir well.

4. Cover pot and cook on LOW for 5 hours.

5. Add the rum and stir to blend.

6. Serve from pot in warm mugs with a scoop of whipped cream and a dusting of nutmeg.
