On your own this Valentine's Day? Get in! No faffing around for you, this is a night of quality time with the most important person in the world. Treat yourself.

The sad reality of Valentine's Day nonsense is that perfectly lovely winter fare is pooh-poohed in favour of foods that sound chicer or sexier or make the suckers eating them sound richer and classier than they really are.

But since you're dining alone this year, why not indulge in the menu we all secretly want? Love stinky, drippy, stodgy and greedy food? You go for your life.

Starter

Cauliflower cheese soup

Cauliflower cheese soup
Onions, garlic and cheese, not foods associated with romance. Do you care? Course you don't.

Main Course

Bangers and mash

Bangers and mash with mustard gravy
The ultimate winter comfort food. So good it's almost orgasmic. Chow down.

Dessert

Chocolate tart

Chocolate tarts
This recipe makes 6 gooey, creamy, lick-your-fingers puds. You can scale that down. Or not. It's your night.
