  • 2 bars of Green and Black's Maya Gold plain chocolate
  • Tia Maria (couple of lidfuls)

Method: How to make vegan chocolate mousse

1. Empty the tofu into a large bowl, blend down with a hand blender and set to one side.

2. Gently melt the chocolate over the hob and then mix the melted chocolate into the tofu and carry on blending. Add your Tia Maria and blend in once more.

3. Once fully blended put in a bowl and leave to stand in the fridge for about an hour.

  1. G&B (now a subsidiary of Cadbury)'s chocolate doesn't actually contain milk powder, they just decided to put it on the ingredients because of cross-contamination. Like other manufacturers put 'may contain traces of', only they decided to put it in the ingredients list for some bizarre reason. Of course, this doesn't preclude the possibility that they may start adding milk powder to the recipe without any further warning, so it's safer to assume it to be non-vegan. Organica makes some good vegan chocolate, including 'milk'-y and white bars.

  2. Maya Gold is dark chocolate but it contains whole milk powder so is not vegan.

  3. At the time when the episode was recorded (2006) Green & Blacks chocs did not contain any dairy, but sadly they now do.

  4. I watched this and was impressed with almost everything except the chocolate mousse. The chocolate she used was regular organic chocolate made with milk. That's not vegan!
