Ingredients

  • 2 onions
  • 2 celery stalks
  • ½ vegetable stock cube
  • 2 pints water
  • 400g stilton cheese

For the bread

  • 450g strong white bread flour
  • 22.5ml or 1½ tsp dried milk powder
  • 1½ tsp salt
  • 2 tsp caster sugar
  • ½ tsp easy blend dried yeast
  • 275ml water
  • 2 tsp / 30ml sun-dried tomato paste
  • 50g sundried tomatoes, chopped

Method: How to make stilton and celery soup with home made bread

1. For the soup: Chop two onions and fry in butter in a saucepan. Chop two celery stalks and add to the saucepan. Stir in half a vegetable stock cube and simmer for 10 minutes at a low heat.

2. Pour mix into a blender and blend. Put mix back into the saucepan adding 2 pints of water, the rest of the vegetables and simmer for 5-10 minutes.

3. Divide a 400 gram block of Stilton cheese into 5 pieces. Pour the soup into soup bowls, then stir the cheese into the soup. Serve immediately.

4. For the bread: Mix flour, yeast and water, sugar adding a pinch of salt. Bake in a bread maker for 3 hours - although the time may vary depending on the bread making machine.

5. Mix in the sun-dried tomatoes and paste just before the kneading cycle starts.
