Take a delicious cheesecake, add some poppy seeds and presto – you've got Helen Lederer’s own poppy seed cheesecake from the celebrity week of Come Dine With Me.

Ingredients

  • Sultanas
  • Lemon vodka
  • 700g cream cheese
  • 8oz caster sugar
  • 12 fl oz whipping cream
  • 1 half oz plain flour
  • 1 half teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 1 tbs poppy seeds

For the base

  • Unsalted butter
  • 1 oz fresh white breadcrumbs
  • Caster sugar

Method: How to make poppy seed cheesecake

1. In a mixing bowl, mix together the biscuit crumbs and Demerara sugar. Add in the melted butter and mix well. Spoon the biscuit mixture into a 20cm spring-form cake tin lined with silicon paper or baking parchment. Use a metal spoon to press the biscuit crumbs down firmly and evenly. Chill in the refrigerator until set.

2. In a large mixing bowl, using a whisk or a wooden spoon, beat together the cream cheese, icing sugar and vanilla pod seeds or vanilla extract until well mixed. Fold in the double cream, mixing well.

3. Spoon the cream mixture over the chilled biscuit base, making sure that there are no air bubbles. Smooth the top of the cheesecake with a palette knife or metal spoon. Chill the cheesecake in the refrigerator for 1 hour until set.

4. To serve, remove from the cake tin and cut into slices.

Please note this recipe has not been tested professionally. Like the Come Dine With Me contestants, you could be creating a culinary delight or dining disaster

  1. Does anyone have the recipe yet? It is so frustrating I bought a cake tin especially just to make it and the recipe is totally wrong!

  3. Why does the method for Helen Lederer's cheesecake not match the ingredients nor reflect her method shown on the show? It was a baked cheesecake - as indicated by the ingredients, but the method clearly is not, even the ingredients on the method do not match.

  4. what is the point of having a comment page if nobody reacts to what is said on it? Is the correct recipe going to be posted? The ingredients list does not even match the method. Grrrrrrrr - we want Helens cheese cake!!!

  7. I'm confused having watched the programme with Helen - she definitely cooked the cheesecake (and forgot the poppy seeds) so why is the recipe above different? I wanted to make the same on she made on the night - with the poppy seeds. For that matter the tart is also very different - I recall her cooking the redcurrants and there was definitely no top - could I have the original recipe please?

  9. Could you please put the recipe for the Poppyseed cheescake? The recipe you have put on here is a mixture of both her pudding recipes. The cheesecake did not have the pastry base...the tart thing did. Thank you, Michelle

  13. Can't think that the above recipe is correct, as I am sure Helen baked this chesecake!! The recipe first says, breadcrumbs, then in the instructions use, biscuit crumbs - first it's vanilla seeds, then it's poppy seeds - it's as confused as Helen...!! Would love the proper recipe please
