When it comes to cocktail trends, the mojito is fast becoming the most popular kid on the block.

According to drinks supremo, Luca, at Mahiki bar in London, the mojito may have been created by pirates, who turned to the simple ingredients of lime and mint when they ran out of spices and couldn't make rum punch.

Whether or not Bluebeard supped on a mojito, the combination of simple, refreshing ingredients and lashings of rum keeps the sexy summer drink flowing.

  1. Mmmm. Naughty naughty. A good mojito shouldn't be topped up with soda water. It should be rum all the way, in my opinion. I learnt how to make mine in Latin America, and they should know. Otherwise, the aguardiente one sounds good.
