Jamie’s omelette recipe from Ministry of Food is tasty and super-quick to knock together. Top with cheese and serve

Taken from Jamie's Ministry of Food.

Serves 1

Ingredients

  • 2–3 large eggs, preferably free-range or organic
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • A knob of butter
  • A small handful of grated Cheddar cheese

Method: How to make an easy, basic omelette

1. Crack the eggs into a mixing bowl with a pinch of salt and pepper.

2. Beat well with a fork.

3. Put a small frying pan on a low heat and let it get hot.

4. Add a knob of butter.

5. When the butter has melted and is bubbling, add your eggs and move the pan around to spread them out evenly.

6. When the omelette begins to cook and firm up, but still has a little raw egg on top, sprinkle over the cheese (I sometimes grate mine directly on to the omelette).

7. Using a spatula, ease around the edges of the omelette, then fold it over in half.

8. When it starts to turn golden brown underneath, remove the pan from the heat and slide the omelette on to a plate .

  1. Delicious! Thanks for this, although its simple and I already had the ingredients ready, my usual omelette's of this would taste plain and burnt as I always used to add milk (what i picked up from my mum as a kid) and would fry it in oil, so no butter. However I have just made this using Jamie's instructions and my omelette is gorgeous and tasty! Thanks for teaching me the propper way to cook them!! x

  3. Having watched all the episodes bar first, I have to say it was extremely interesting and thought provoking. I know Jamie wanted more instant results, but there will be a long term benefit as these people teach their children and so on, so Pass it On becomes not just a short term iniative but one that hopefully will transcend time. Many things take a while for the idea to be sown but once people feel they own it, then its surprising how it will take off.
