1. Put the oatmeal in a pan with 450ml water. Leave to soak overnight.
2. Put the pan on the stove, add a pinch of salt, and bring to a simmer. Cook over a low heat, letting it sputter and pop and stirring frequently, for about 8 minutes, or until tender and creamy.
3. Add a good splash of cold milk, mix well and serve with thick treacle spooned on top.
