The healthiest way to start the day, enjoy breakfast Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s traditional and wholesome way

Ingredients

  • 125g pinhead oatmeal
  • A good splash of whole milk
  • A pinch of salt
  • Treacle, to serve

Method: How to make pinhead oatmeal

1. Put the oatmeal in a pan with 450ml water. Leave to soak overnight.

2. Put the pan on the stove, add a pinch of salt, and bring to a simmer. Cook over a low heat, letting it sputter and pop and stirring frequently, for about 8 minutes, or until tender and creamy.

3. Add a good splash of cold milk, mix well and serve with thick treacle spooned on top.

  2. I'm trying to find the recipe for the pea and ham soup, using split peas and picks hock (?) that Hugh made on the programme the other day, but it doesn't seem to be listed. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

  3. Really enjoyed the new series of River Cottage which started last night. I am trying to buy the Pinhead Oatmeal (Hugh's recipee for making porridge) but all my local farm shops don't stock it, do you know where i can get it from? I live in the Berkshire area.
