Comedian, Jessica Hynes, took on Gordon with this recipe in an F Word macaroni challenge
Serves 4
1. Preheat the oven to 200˚C/gas 6.
2. Crumble the stock cube into a large saucepan of boiling water. Boil the macaroni in the chicken stock until cooked. Drain and set aside.
3. To make the white sauce first melt the butter in a hot saucepan. Add the flour together with three small pinches of jerk seasoning and a little salt and pepper. Allow to cook for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Add a little of the milk to the flour and stir to combine. Cook briefly then add a little more milk and repeat the process gradually until all the milk is incorporated and you have a smooth sauce. Bring to the boil then reduce the heat and simmer for a further 3 – 5 minutes until the sauce begins to thicken. Add three quarters of the grated cheese little by little and mix well. Tip the drained macaroni into the cheese sauce and stir.
4. Prepare your oven dish by lightly greasing the bottom and sides with some butter. Spoon half of the macaroni mixture into the dish and sprinkle over the raw red onion. Spoon the remaining macaroni on top and top with the remaining grated cheese.
5. Bake in the oven for 20-30 minutes until the cheese is golden and the onion is cooked.
