With Easter just around the corner, millions of Britons are tucking into mountains of industrially produced chocolate that is high in sugar and fat

Willie is raised by the bar

But not if chocolate enthusiast, Willie Harcourt-Cooze, has anything to say about it! He's back on Channel 4 to show everyone that when it comes to chocolate, we definitely deserve better.

Raising the Bar: Willie’s Chocolate Revolution

In this 3 part special, stripped over consecutive nights, Willie will attempt to create the finest and purest chocolate bar in the world, and teach a nation of chocoholics how wonderful real chocolate can be.

Britons spend more per head on chocolate than any other nation in Europe. However, few eat truly authentic chocolate and Willie wants to re-educate the public about how chocolate should really taste.

He is on a mission to create a bar that is both delicious and affordable, but which doesn’t contain the excessive quantities of vegetable fat, sugar and additives that characterise most existing products that line supermarket shelves.

Willie will also demonstrate just how versatile chocolate is through a range of sweet and savoury recipes including duck, mango and cacao casserole, chocolate mousse cake, sticky cinnamon and cacao buns and a to-die-for chocolate ice-cream (stay tuned for the recipes!).

Will Willie get the funding and new equipment necessary to produce his new chocolate bars? Can he persuade the public to love it and retailers to stock it? Can one individual, no matter how passionate, really hope to change the way we think about and consume chocolate?

Find out on Channel 4, Tuesday 7th - Thursday 9th April, 8pm.

  15. admirable, however, willie is not alone in his aims.. there has been a chocolate revolution going on for quite some time, spearheaded by Shazzie in Cambridge, Pete at organic shamanic in Brighton and many others including the Conscious Chocolate people and my fave Mulu, who are all producing fantastic raw chocolate bars. Also, the Raw Chocolatier in Brighton produces divine handmade truffles with 100% raw cacao, no added unhealthy fats, no dairy, and sweetened with agave nectar, making them suitable for all diets including diabetics. The chocolate revolution is certainly not taking place in the hands of this one man. I'd say the others are already ahead. Also, there has been much research into the health benefits of cacao in the last two years, including papers by Harvard Medical School, revealing that raw chocolate is indeed extremely good for you, containing lots of antioxidants, boosting the production and release of feel good neuro-chemicals, boosting energy levels, balancing hormones, suppressing the appetite (so you won't get fat on it!) and more besides, including having aphrodisiac qualities. Willie is not the only one, just the one on the telly!
