It's lambing season at River Cottage and already there's 42 lambs hopping about, nibbling grass in the sun.
During March and April Hugh's on constant duty in the barn's maternity ward. The sheep have to be checked every two hours meaning long sleepless nights for Hugh.
"During lambing it's unbelievably hard to tear yourself out of a cosy warm bed to go out into the wind outside," he yawns.
A sleepy Hugh checks on the girls, and arrives just in time to see an indignant ewe butt her bed-mate out of the way.
"She's ready to lamb," explains Hugh.
Is she ever! Just minutes later it's all hands on deck in the barn and with Hugh's help, the plucky sheep delivers a big bonny baby.
