7. Breaking the law?
7. Breaking the law? (Image 7 of 8)
Britain's gone 'grow your own' crazy but with allotment waiting lists of up to 30 years some green fingered groupies are looking for other way to get growing.
At first sight, Todmorden is a classic Pennine mill town but on closer inspection it seems the vegetables are taking over. Guerrilla gardeners, Mary Clear and Anne Wallace, have gone plant potty, shoving edibles into every spare bit of earth in their bid to make the town self sufficient within ten years.
They've already got bus stop herbs, lay-by leeks, even graveyard gourds and now Hugh's on hand to help set raspberry canes by the rec ground.
"Technically speaking, is it possible we're breaking the law here?" asks the rebel Hugh.
"Technically speaking we might be," admits Mary.
Cor! Caught green-handed.
