"Round these parts, one of the most popular ways of celebrating the harvest is the local goose fair," says Hugh, "I'm short on geese but I'm quite long on ducks."
Back in the spring, Hugh took delivery of a two dozen fertilised duck eggs.
"Hatching ducklings without a duck is an exact science," says Daddy-duck Hugh, confidently placing his eggs into an incubator, "They have to be kept at a constant 39°C for exactly 28 days and turned twice daily to stop the developing embryos sticking to the shell."
But like all babies, these hatchlings are unpredictable creatures. On day 24 the cracks begin to show. Next morning, a cluster of fluffy ducklings pop out to say hello to Hugh.
