Channel 4's champion of local seasonal food, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, returns to River Cottage to discover the best that winter has to offer

Winter is on the way and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is once again making the most of local and seasonal fare. Revelling in all that is coming good in the garden, Hugh draws warmth from his chillies, comfort from his pumpkins and pleasure from his potatoes. The sea, the coast and the hedgerows also provide plenty for the River Cottage menu; squid, mullet and crab, horseradish, mustard and sloes are all celebrated either on a plate or in a jar.

Landshare

The Landshare campaign, which matches landowners who have land to spare with would-be growers, continues to capture the public’s imagination. Hugh visits more families and communities who have benefited from the match and are dizzy under the influence of 'grow your own fever'.

Over four episodes, Hugh and the River Cottage team show viewers how to make the most of the season’s best.

Thursdays at 8pm, starting November on Channel 4

  4. Excellent program. I have just seen the 18th Nov programme and was interested to know how they cured the pelts with egg and water. Could you elaborate please. I have been trying to get hold of some allum to cure pelts but chemical suppliers dont list it. I shoot rabbits with an 22 airrifle. The meat is excellent and all the better for being free. Funny how people have got out of the habbit of eating it and often turn their noses up at it when offerred a free one. They then go to Spain for their holliday and eat it in Paella.

  13. Have just watched the first show, how fantasticit is it to have Hugh back giving us all the seasonal recipes. Was very interested in the outdoor cooking especially the recipe with the ham hock and split peas, would like to know if you cooked the split peas with the ham hock first and then added the carrots and onions. Cannot wait for next week.
