1. I know a van driver who collects chicken fat from Tesco Stores rotisseries. This fat actually has a value as it supposed to be recycled in Bio Diesel. However! I hear that there is more money in cleaning up the chicken fat, and sending it back to chicken farm, who then in turn feed the chickens with it!! Sureley, putting waste back into the food chain must be illegal, especially when apparently you can make more money from chicken fat from animal feed instead of biodiesel!

2. Since I have watched your programme Hugh I have not eaten any other chicken than free range. I live in Australia and your message has reached here too, not only about that but about supermarkets in general. I now visit my greengrocer and butcher and farmers markets buying beautiful fresh healthy products.I have even started a vegie patch, fruit trees, and chooks as they call them here! I have even thought why buy expensive quick serve products when I can bake my own! THANK YOU KAREN

3. It was about time somebody did something to try and talk some sense into the general public. We can only hope that people begin to understand the consequences of intense farming, both to human health and to the welfare of the animals that give their lives to feed us. Ghandi said that the level of development of a nation can be measured by the way its animals are treated. For almost a year now we've been buying organic, free range chickens and I guess that is our way to support the change towards more humane farming methods. Save the planet, go organic!

5. During the last 4 years I have worked in Tesco, Asda and Morrisons and I can assure you that the cheap chickens are all battery reared, so why only pick on Tesco?

6. Hugh - What a great job you're doing. You're not only converting Axminister but Aussies, too. We're watching your show down here, mate, on the Lifestyle channel. Mine is not the only family that has gone free range. If it's not free range, we won't order it at restaurants, cafes, etc. either. There's quite a movement in Oz for organic food, and food that is grown close to home, right now - and you're making a significant contribution to influencing and inspiring us Down Under. Onya, Hugh! 7. I think it's great that Hugh is raising awareness of the consequences of mass food farming for our health. Surely, mass food farming and greedy over-consumption are a key part of the problem. In a sense, supermarkers have simply adapted to cater for this culture. The price-point that 'standard' chicken farmers keep talking about, is as much consumer, as well as supermarket induced. Well done Hugh for illustrating the qualitative differences between the different types of chicken. 'Less is more' should be the premise of animal and human welfare. In the days before mass farming and culling, animals could be reared in better conditions because there was less demand for chicken and other forms of meat as a daily staple. So, society paid more per chicken bought, but better savoured each chicken consumed. I certainly won't buy another 'standard' chicken again. You also ably demonstrated that animal and human welfar are inseparable issues. Tesco's approach of focusing on price-point's in the name of the consumer, is seriously flawed.

8. Hugely pleasing is Hugh's education factor which more than equals the con-job being pulled by those supermarkets involved in selling us cheap chickens. I've never bought a cheap chicken since seeing the good work being put in by Hugh. The inhuman conditions in which we are rearing our foodstuffs is appalling for a country with our traditions and history. Keep going Hugh !

Could not agree more but i am pretty sure that my mother did not pay ?10 - ?12 for a chicken in the late sixties early seventies??? even with inflation i think a lot of produce with the word Free range or Organic printed on it is seen by some companies as a licence to print money and over charge consumers. Times were hard in the early seventies and i am very sure that my and many other mums were not held to ransom over free range food! Bring the price down to a reasonable level and more people will get on board.

10. I have not bought a cheap chicken since I saw the programme. It made me cry and I felt physically sick. We should be taking responsibility for what we put in our mouths. It makes sense that if the chickens are not fed and looked after well that it will have a knock on effect with regard to our health. Tesco should be ashamed of themselves. I now only but organic free range and if I cant afford it then I go without. I don't ever shop at Tesco unless there is absolutely no choice, which is extremely rare. Go Hugh go! .... Love the show

12. Its all very good saying this when your a wealthy celebrity chef, but what about the single parent on benefits with three hungry children to feed. They often rely on Chicken nuggets, Sunday roast etc. Its about time these "supermarket giants" thought about these people and lower their prices to meets the needs of more of their customers rather than a minority ESPECIALLY in the current economic climate.

15. i bought cheaper chicken till i watched the program and could not believe the conditions the chickens were being kept. i buy free range chicken now and i must say the taste great. i think buing cheap chicken you are promoting the cheap chicken farmers.

16. i just left school and went to a chicken farm and i had to leave it bad the way there aloud to keep animals that way! carry on what your doing there is a lot of people behind you!

17. i am in school at the moment, learning about this in science. we all think it is sick and horrible. we are all fully against it as we cant imagine who would want to keep animals in such a digusting place!
