Gordon arrived at a struggling Italian restaurant in a New Jersey suburb where they were dishing up delusion - on massive plates.
"We don't have recipes. We don't have measuring cups or spoons because I'm the best," explained Joe, the self-taught chef-owner.
Bigger than his ego were the enormous dishes coming out of the kitchen. Gordon watched in wonderment as customer after customers left clutching a doggy bag. Joe's passion for big portions was eating up the profits.
In the kitchen, the staff were having so much fun it was more like a youth club than a restaurant. The fun and games behind closed doors meant hungry diners had to wait up to an hour for their food.
Gordon stepped in to streamline the kitchen, getting rid of excess food, training staff and introducing a great new signature dish to the menu - meatballs.
