Manhattan is a Mecca for great restaurants, but Gordon met his biggest challenge at the heart of the Big Apple.
This Indian restaurant was a shambles. The menu was confusing, the manager was a nightmare and the business was losing $20,000 to $30,000 a month. Worst of all was the standard of hygiene Gordon discovered, behind the scenes.
From mouldy food, to flies, cockroaches and even rats; the kitchen at Dillon's was a disgrace.
"I've eaten here!" yelled a furious Gordon. "Do we need a death at this restaurant before some f**ker gets a grip?" and immediately shut them down.
After a massive clean-up operation Dillon's reopened with new staff, a new menu of classic Indian dishes with a modern twist and even a new name - Purnima.
