Café 36 in Illinois is an American bistro run by childhood sweethearts, Terry and Carol. The couple bought the place two years ago, fulfilling a lifelong dream of Terry's.

But despite putting their heart, soul and savings into the business they just can't get the customers in. "I'm 58 years old, a time when most people are thinking about retiring," sighs a deflated Terry.

The hardworking boss takes on everything himself, from restaurant managing to cleaning the toilets. "You have a staff standing there - why are you doing it?" moans an anxious Carol.

Meanwhile the waiting staff are well aware where the problem lies; with chef Pinto, ever ready to finger the food but less capable of cooking it.

I Googled Cafe 36 and I'm happy to report they seem to be alive and well. Here's the site: http://www.cafe36.com/ Nice looking menu too I might add. Good for them!

I agree with Digby Eade (posted 17/04/2009 22:59:31). I would like to find out if they made - I hope so. Great series and concept, keep it up!!

A fantastic series, as usual, but PLEASE can we hear what happens to the restaurants after Gordon's left, as we used to? Having just watched a very emotional episode with Cafe 36 it would be wonderful to know if the owner's managed to make a success of their business and if Gordon was able to enjoy a celebratory drink when he went back or was it one of condolences?
