The Granary is a supper club so exclusive, it's got hardly any punters
Gordon has tackled nightmare kitchens across the country and even ventured as far as Paris in his mission to turn around failing restaurants. Now, as the series draws to a close, Gordon visits rural Hampshire and the biggest venue he's ever taken on.
This 200 seater restaurant, The Granary, is an upmarket restaurant originally opened four years ago as a dining club by the entrepreneur Nigel Nieddu. It has undergone a £2m refit but despite it's size and reputation, it's still losing £4000 a week.
The menu promises classy modern British cuisine but in reality the fussy menu features food sourced from all over the globe and the locals, disconcerted by its exclusive reputation, are staying far away.
And in the kitchen as well as handling the ambitious menu, head chef, Martin, doubles as parole officer to his unruly teenage staff, while Nigel stubbornly struggles to contain the front-of-house chaos that he’s created.
Gordon’s got to carry out radical surgery to prevent disaster. The kitchen needs a massive injection of discipline to stop the lippy apprentices getting out of line, and it’s time to go back to nature to get passion back on the menu. But meltdown beckons.
Can Gordon persuade the headstrong boss to get real, or will the Granary end up brown bread - dead?
Gordon pulls no punches when it comes to getting the job done. What do you think of his tough love tactics? Does the big man have a point or does all that swearing leave you with a bad taste in your mouth? Leave your comments below.
