What's happening to all our bees? A new show looks at the causes and effects of colony collapse disorder (CCD)
The True Stories strand, which showcases the best international feature documentaries, presents Jeremy Simmons' prescient film about the plight affecting honeybees throughout the world.
Through the stories of three American beekeepers; Nicole Ulibarri from Montana, Eric Mills from Carolina and Matt Hutchens from Washington State, Simmons follows their efforts to establish bee colonies, make them commercially successful and travel across the country with their hives to areas where their pollination is needed. But as with so many of the world's apiarists, the three are suffering from unexplained colony collapse disorder (CCD) which has not just seen single hives affected - but instead, caused whole businesses to fail.
Watch the exclusive Last of the Honeybees trailer below.
The film examines the global consequences should CCD continue unchecked, with the possibility of the crops, fruit and flowers that humanity rely on not being pollinated. And therefore neither reproducing nor growing. The film was released in America as The Last Beekeeper.
