January sees a range of stimulating, innovative and campaigning food programming on C4, which will challenge people to think before they eat. Here are some highlights

Hugh's Chicken Run

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall tries to change the way Britain consumes chicken, by educating people about free-range chicken. Battery-farmed chickens can be sold for less than the price of a pint of beer, with some shocking results, as Hugh finds when he sets up his own intensive-rearing chicken farm. Over the course of the series, Hugh goes on to challenge all the major supermarkets to change their ways, as he learns about the harsh reality of modern poultry production.

Jamie's Fowl Dinners

In this programme, Jamie Oliver looks at how nearly 9 billion eggs and 900 million chickens are produced every year in the UK. He'll be asking what the difference is between a 'broiler' and a 'battery' chicken, how many chickens are Free Range, and how others live and die. Using a series of demonstrations, and including the views of people from a wide range of backgrounds, including producers and retailers, the film aims to be a fair, open and honest debate about how we produce and consume chicken and eggs in this country.

Cook-A-Long-A-Gordon LIVE

In an adrenaline-packed hour-long F-Word special, Gordon Ramsay invites the nation to cook along with him live. Viewers will be able to download ingredient details before transmission so they can follow his instructions in real time to produce an amazing home-cooked meal. Over the course of the programme, Gordon will prove that fast food doesn't have to compromise on quality or excitement.

Eat Yourself To Death

This hard-hitting programme shows what the effects of a bad diet really lead to. Three experts – a chef, a doctor, and an anatomist – will reveal just how some of our food is produced and its fatal effects. From the birth of a processed pie to the death of a fast food addict, they examine what we eat today and tell us the facts about the real effects of unhealthy eating. The chef will show just what's in our processed food and how it's made, the doctor reveals the impact of a diet of fast food on humans, and finally anatomist Dr Gunther von Hagens conducts a human dissection to show what obesity really means.

The Diet That Time Forgot

This novel look at the modern British diet follows four junk food addicts head to Northern Pakistan to spend a month living with the Shimshal people, who subsist on what's said to be the healthiest diet in the world, without additives, saturated fats and sugar-laden treats.

First Cut: Health Food Junkies

The Raw Food Diet is said to be the most extreme diet in Britain - its followers will not eat anything that has been heated to 45 degrees Celsius as they believe it destroys the foods' essential enzymes and nutrients. This programme investigates and asks whether there is anything to it
