One of Jamie's most promising protégés is Clare, a crisp fanatic who he's trying to wean off her usual 27 packets a day. To show Clare the damage her carb addiction is doing Jamie arranges a scan at the local hospital, which shows high levels of fat lying in her liver. Or as Dr Jamie puts it: "She's got the beginnings of foie gras growing inside her."
The consultant requests a private word with Clare and after a few minutes she emerges in tears. Jamie fears the worst - perhaps she's diabetic? No, she's eating for two. Clare is pregnant and now has even more reason to change her ways. Time to teach her some new ways of snacking.
Jamie cooks up some asparagus with butter and fresh herbs and it's a hit. "It costs me £5 for two big bags of crisps. Will it cost me £5 for that?" asks Clare. Nowhere near.
