Savannah is one of America's oldest cities and is famous for its wealth. Georgia's first British settlement is proud of its culinary traditions and the ladies who lunch make daily appointments for afternoon tea and cakes.
Susan Mason, grande dame of cakes and desserts and the must have chef at Savannah's top social occasions, invites Jamie for a brew, but she won't be drawn on the recession.
"No politics over cocktails!" chirps the Southern belle.
Jamie will be spending the night on the other side of the tracks, parking up in one of the area's poorest trailer parks but, when talk turns to politics here, a shocked Jamie discovers it's not just attitudes to food that have stayed the same since the dark days of slavery.
