So we've seen birth and reproduction – the final step on the journey is a less happy one as Jamie takes a group of guests to the slaughterhouse. "If you eat meat you've got to accept sooner or later it's going to die," says Jamie.
Each pig is stunned with electric tongs on its temples to knock it out. The slaughter men then have one minute to place the pig in shackles and kill it with one clean cut through the jugular. If they don't get it done within the minute then the pig will start to come round.
It's over in seconds but the spectators are visually shocked. "Death is never nice but in some respects this pig is going to get a more efficient death than most of us humans," Jamie tells them. "It was more humane than I imagined," admits one of the guests.
