Natasha might be buoyed up, but its cynics like Julie that Jamie has to win over. "She said she'd always be honest with me and I'm thinking 'is she right?'," he ponders.
Still, there are plenty in the class who are brimming with community spirit and with their frowns tuned upside-down, they agree to hold street parties, just like in the War, to pass on their cooking skills over a barbie and a beer.
Defying Julie's pessimism, Claire and Natasha knock up their neighbours for a couple of quid for ingredients. It's a resounding success. The girls have plenty of takers and offers of home-cooked delights thrown in to boot.
