Charlie Cottrell meets the woman whose tongue got Heston excited
Kathryn Hoyle from Sh! erotic emporium got up close and personal with Heston and the team to pick the perfect vibrator.
The chefs seemed rather out of their comfort zone; clearly more at home feeling up vegetables than vibes, but that’s not uncommon and exactly why all the toys at Sh! are out of their packaging, batteries installed and ready to be played with. Had they actually been buying a vibe for pleasure they’d have needed quite a lot of guidance!
We loved meeting Heston and his team and their how-to-make-a-jelly-wobble experiments actually ended up teaching us a little more about vibrators - which after 16 years in the business is no mean feat! Jelly turned out to be pretty good for observing the different kinds of intensity vibrators can deliver. Whilst we know that high, zingy vibes feel different to deep, throbby ones, actually seeing the difference - from barely discernable quiver to slow ripple - has made it easier visualise and therefore to explain the difference to customers.
Shall we just say it was definitely Mad Scientist; Heston seemed focussed and driven to solve the jelly-wobble problem, but the suggestions and experiments became increasingly messy and jelly ended up everywhere. The Sh! Girlz may as well have been the chefs given the clean-down they had to perform before opening up. But then, a sticky sex shop is as unacceptable as a greasy kitchen!
Food and sex is a time-honoured meeting of two of the best kinds of sensuous pleasure, so we reckon sex should be taken into the kitchen, or food into the bedroom all the time.
If you’re looking for practical applications, how about a spanker for tenderising meat, a Rabbit vibe for stirring mayonnaise or a bullet vibe for levelling soufflé?
We haven’t yet seen the programme yet so it will be a surprise to see how Heston solved his jelly issues, but from the experiments in the Sh! store, the Tongue vibe definitely was a hit, both with the jelly and with the boys. It's a pretty weird-looking toy and one that we wouldn’t normally stock; 'realistic' toys are too ugly, with troubling undertones of the sex toys of the 1970s, to make it onto the shelves at Sh! But the tongue moves in a way that is totally unique; it doesn't vibrate, it waggles! We couldn't deny our customers the pleasures of that.
