On his mission to create a Tudor spectacle, Heston played Frankenstein with surgeon, Peter Arnstein

What was it like working with Heston?

Heston was enormously affable and easygoing, with obvious bountiful energy and many ideas.

Had he told you what he wanted you to do before he arrived with the animals?

Yes, which allowed me time to cook a variety of sutures to ensure they didn't melt and cause a gastronomic catastrophe!

Had you ever done anything like this before?

As surgeons, we generally try to put the right bits back together, although I suppose transplant surgery has a vague similarity.

How easy is it to sew a pig to a chicken? Can I give it a go at home?

I have carried out trickier surgical tasks in my time. If you try to do it at home use prolene or stainless steel stitches!

Did it look ten years younger?

Ten years younger! As if pigs could fly…

Will you be serving up a hybrid meat for Sunday lunch?

We usually like to experiment, the cockatrice was nothing compared to last week's bison/sparrow challenge!
