I would love the recipe for the ejaculating cake it looks delicious. How we'd get the effect without dry ice is a mystery.

I too would love to the recipe, but I guess Channel 4 doesn't read this, and is probably not allowed to give it out due to dry ice being dangerous if handled improperly. However could we not get the rest of the recipe, especially the popping candy base? My girlfriend was in tears because she knew she would probably never get to try it, and I would love to surprise her.

What a fantastic series - tonight (the Roman Feast) was especially good. Please can you send me the recipe for the ejaculating cake - having been the cause of many a joke because of my lack of 'baking skills' I would love to impress friends and family with that one!!!?

i found all of hestons feasts fantastic . it would be brilliant if anyone could do these oat home for dinner parties. but i would particularly like to try the ejaculating cake he did in the roman feast. is it possible to get the recipe from you .

Just had chance to watch the last of Heston's fab series on history inspired food. Really hope that he produces another series, made for very interesting viewing, great show! Also would love to join the quest to get a copy of the recipe for the Roman inspired ejaculating cake with the popping biscuit base looked like a really delicious, fun pudding to try.

I do not see anything wrong with the fish gutting.... Those of you that say it was wrong for a fish to suffer like that or to be left to die slowly, Do you know what happen to them when they are fished everyday? They are taken off the water and left to die slowly in ice.... or even better they die of stress when caught in nets...Only bigger fishes get killed by banging their head... There was a programme on bbc4 about the Japanese obsession with fish where a fish was filleted alive and the its sushi served next to what was left of the fish still breathing... I do not think is right to compare fish with animals..

This was a great series, which I really enjoyed. Unfortunately Heston’s research team failed to ascertain that the closest thing to the Roman’s Garumn and Liquamen actually does exist in Italy as in the %u201CColatura di Alici di Cetara%u201D therefore they were wrong in pointing out the Thai fish sauce as the closest relative. It would indeed be very interesting if channel 4 publish some of the recipes or techniques in more details%u2026

I am glad to see that I am not alone in feeling that it was entirely inappropriate to gut fish while still alive on the Roman feast show. Is it not the case (and perhaps the law?) that animals should not be subjected to a slow and painful death as they clearly were in this program? I would be grateful to hear Heston's thoughts on this matter.

I found gutting of live animals for entertainment very upsetting and distressing and the emulation of a roman product went to far in this instance. I doubt the flavour of the dish would have changed if they killed the fish first.I think in todays climate and with the knowledge we now have about the suffering of animals this is inexcuseable and Heston Blumenthal should have more respect for the anmals he kills for his 'experimental' food.

I get the idea that Heston was preparing a modern slant on old recipes, but in the case of the amazing ejaculating pudding, I'm pretty sure the Romans didn't have access to dry ice, or Mentos and cola for that matter. It was a bit of a disappointment that there was no mention of how the Romans may have achieved such an effect without such modern aids. Are there any clues?

I was very saddened to see how the mackerel were treated - it's bad enough that they were eviscerated whilst still alive, but then to be left to die slowly in a bucket shows a level of thoughtless cruelty and disrespect that I hadn't expected of Heston Blumenthal. I hope he reads this and takes note.
