It's not every day you're asked to cook a hog in a hot tub. Hannah Williams spoke to Tony Burnett from the Canadian Spa Company about his most surreal spa request
Yes we were surprised at first at the request, but after giving it some thought and having seen some of Heston's work before it didn't really seem weird at all.
No, never in my life!
He just needed a spa big enough to take the piggy, and one that would reach a certain temperature. We had to bypass the safety cut outs etc… but, hey in the interest of good TV and a bit of publicity, there's nothing we won't do.
Yes, the hog was left to 'relax' in the spa for most of the day and all night too. We left the radio on for it so that it didn't get too lonely and could feel all the health benefits that a Canadian Spa Company spa bath has to offer. We put the LED lights on for it as well.
It didn't look too chipper when it came out, it hadn't changed colour and the bag was full of its juices. Having said that, I've seen some pretty rotten sights getting out of my spa after a few hours, so you can't really blame the poor little porker for not looking his best eh? Sure I'd have eaten it; there was a strange bacony kind of smell emanating from it which if I'm honest aroused my taste buds!
Sausage intestines are not something that's ever bothered me. If it's good enough for Heston and the Romans, it's good enough for me.
Yes, wherever possible!
