Channel 4 news anchor, Krishnan Guru-Murthy donned his chef's hat and headed into the F Word kitchen. Used to grilling politicians does the plucky newsreader have as much luck with his pork chops? 4Food spills the beans on Krishnan's food secrets

What was the last thing you ate?

Chicken soup.

What would you most like to have for dinner tonight?

Sushi.

What would be your perfect picnic location?

The Great Barrier Reef.

What's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten?

Crocodile - it wasn't good.

How good are you in the kitchen?

I have virtually no knowledge… but I can get by on instinct.

What's the worst thing you've ever cooked?

Oven chips - still in the plastic tray.

What's your favourite kitchen gadget?

We have a very clever kitchen cabinet in the corner that utilises all the space properly and a posh bottle opener that I love but the microwave still impresses me.

What makes you sick?

Stringy liver.

Fat chips or French fries?

Fat chips.

What's in your fridge right now?

Loads - it's huge and very well stocked. With kids it has to be.

What's your guiltiest snack?

Marks & Spencer's chocolate teacakes.

What do you eat to cure a hangover?

Bacon.

Where's your favourite local food gem?

Mr Christian's in Notting Hill – was my local for years.

What's the perfect date meal?

The tasting menu at Nobu.

You were trapped in a kitchen with Gordon and your mum, how did you feel about the colourful language?

I made it very clear that if Gordon used any F Words in front of my mum we would walk out of the kitchen. But he didn't, so we were very pleased. And it proved he doesn't need to do. He said 'shit'– but on the whole he behaved.

A bit of fun in the kitchen or a day's hard graft – did Gordon work you harder than you expected?

It was much better fun, and much more exciting than I was expecting. We were all rather dreading it – but came away having really enjoyed it. And we've cooked the food for friends since.
