But it's not easy for mature mum Janet to settle into the swing of tender parenting.
Perhaps the pressure of trundling fresh food and bedding up the hill to the calves' shed is getting to her - each day, the calves get through 20 litres of milk. And as they keep growing and getting hungrier it seems a farmer's work is never done.
A grumpy Janet starts the day by shouting at the cows.
Tut tut Janet - that will have to stop if you want your veal to be super tender.
