Anything too strong or too bitter will ruin the flavour of the meat. Gordon's looking for a beer that's smooth, not too gassy and that doesn't have a strong aftertaste.

As Will leads Gordon on an ale-based tasting tour, Gordon's still not looking convinced that beer is the way to go with a delicate meat like veal. His sensitive palate isn't wowed by any of the early beers he tries and as he runs gagging behind the bar, it's clear he's definitely not a stout man.

Finally Will brings out an Inns and Gunn beer. It's brewed in Scotland, has vanilla and caramel flavours and most importantly, no bitter aftertaste. Gordon loves it. This is the beer he wants to imitate for his own home brew.

But according to Will, that winning flavour comes from the barrels the beer is brewed in. If Gordon wants to brew his own he'll need to speak to a man about a keg.

YEAH for Gordon Ramsay! I love love love anything and everything Ramsay! I recently ate at his rest. in New York City and it was AWESOME! I was wondering if I can get the "F" Word beer here in the States??? I live in Florida. I would love to try it, but I hope I dont have to Fly England to drink it! Thanks ;)

my husband is making his own beer. he has made 2 batches so far and he is not the happiest about either batch. his first batch was too lite and bitter and his second batch was darker but not as bitter. his problem is that he doesnt want a beer with all the hops but a good flavor. he doesnt like the bitterness of the hops. does any one have any thoughts as to how get a good flavorful beer without the bitterness of the hops??

Even if you're brewing your own, start by savouring each of the Belgian Trappist ales. They are the mark. Having had a recent awakening, thanks to a neighbor with a fabulous basement brewery, I can also suggest that IPA's hopped with New Zealand hops and Imperial Pilsner hopped with golden nuggets are supremely amazing beverages. A festival in your mouth. The only method that I can't find worth the squeeze are the lambics, but to each his own. There are some fabulous commercial microbrews here in the states. The stouts and porters are also becoming more popular as well. There may be hope yet for the American beer drinkers that have been lulled into sucking down barrels of corn and rice based monkey piss (a.k.a. Bud & Coors). Since rediscovering truly good beer the wines that I've put up are lasting a whole lot longer. Best of all, even your mistakes turn out quite well.
