  1. You're too fast for me Gordon! 9pm is too late for dinner! National shortage of Rhubarb that day. Had to use plums instead. Still tasted great. Thanks for the inspiration.

  3. It was crazy trying to keep up with Gordon last week, I got all in a tizzy and almost gave up, but in the end after a little cheating (Thanks mum) we finally all got to eat dinner and it was delicious! Defiantly going to be more prepared this week for some speed cooking! Only negatives had to be the Rhubarb, I couldn’t find any so had to use frozen... oh and the indigestion from trying to eat in the advert breaks lol

  4. My family and I had great fun taking part in last week's cookalong. My husband, who never cooks, was head chef, my mother-in-law was assistant and I was chief washer upper, runner etc etc. My 7 year old son even helped us. All 3 courses were delicious! I tried salmon for the first time and thought it was great. Thank you Gordon for fab food and a fun evening. We are poised and at the ready for tonight's show.

  7. we thought the starter was very acidic, so would probably adapt if did it again. There was no mention of when to put the oven on or what reg. so had to guess. Also, did not indicate when to boil broccoli. Bit disorganised. However we enjoyed the main and would definitely do it again. Didn't do the pudding, but looked nice.

  8. My wife and I recorded the show on Sky, so that we could pause the action to suit us at a later date, we cooked last night (Wednesday 29th) and it was very successful. Sadly our rum did not flash off, so no pyrotechnics. We did not photo the results but we were pleased with the result. We just wish the guest(s) would not fanny about so much. Our experience with the pilot show, which we tried live, without Sky, was chaos, as we had trouble keeping up. Overall, very good, looking forward to the rest of the series. RM

  10. I was really looking forward to the cook along but i was bitterly dissapointed. Having brought all the ingredients and measured them out prior to the start of the show, Gorden's pace of cooking was rediculous. I thought cooking was all about taking your time, enjoying it, learning something and retaining the information. We your sure as anything didn't get that experience with last weeks cook along. It wasn't so much as cooking as sprinting through putting a load of ingredients toegther and simply hoping it would turn out ok. A terrible attribute to the already bulging tv shedule of cooking shows. I normally love Gorden's other shows, but this just didn't work. Why have all the little pre recordered interlude's when we could have done with that extra time actually learning something in the kitchen?? Great idea but very poorly pulled off, and the addition of a celebrity whilst clearly trying to add an entertainment element, i felt just distracted further from already rushed instructions. And finally, why use Rhubarb in the crumble when almost no supermarkets stock it at this time of the year? Thoughtless! Sorry Gorden, i won't be joining you again next show. SLOW DOWN!!!!

  11. Loved the first cookalong, missed it when he done it earlier in the year and am so gonna follow this series. It made for a great Friday night in with friends and will def follow the rest of the shows. Understand the comments re: the first menu, for alot of people it was quite an expensive menu. However try what we done so you have some tips for the following weeks: Substitue some ingredients, i.e. dried herbs for fresh. Obviously fresh ingredients are better but if you are on a budget then dried ingredients will do the job and a jar of the dried herbs will last for a while. Also, try using different cuts of meat work. We used Salmon fillets for our Salmon en Crute which worked out alot cheaper and still turned out fab. Also, for those who are on a tight budget or time restrictions, on the first week we only done the main course. Which saved on expense and time, but still enabled us to join in the fun. Just some suggestions in case they some in useful ... looking forward to this weeks :-0

  12. Having done the first cookalong, I was really excited by the new series. We recorded the show, watched it live and then cooked with it the following day for my parents. Even having watched in advance, it was still frantic in the kitchen - I managed to forget to put the spuds on (didn't notice until we were told to switch them off!), we threw 750g of sugar in the pan instead of 75g (?) and totally lost the plot when it came to the brocolli. But even saying that, it made for a fab evening, we had loads of fun and the food was delicious! This weekend, I have printed the recipes in advance so I know what ingredients belong with each dish - there'll be no ginger nuts in my lasagne! Thanks to Channel 4 and to Gordon for great entertainment, and for getting me cooking!

  13. I was really disappointed with the cookalong. My husband and I are both very competent in the kitchen, we regularly have friends for dinner, but that was the most manic hour of my life! Why didn't Gordon stick to the explanations insead of wasting time with his 'Ant & Dec' style prank on Delia? The food itslf was very tasty(except the crumble.. we abandoned by then)but I think it is a shame that people who don't normally cook, and were inspired to 'have a go' would have found this task almost impossible, especially when the ingrediens weren't cheap. Basically, I won't be doing it again.... sorry Gordon!

  14. Watched it on Fri, my husband and I cooked it on Saturday - well the main and the dessert so we could take our time and enjoy it. Bit annoying as no supermarkets had any rhubarb so we did an apple and plum crumble left our the ginger and put cinnamon in instead it was delicious bet it was better than Gordon's.

  15. I love doing the cookalongs but we kept missing bits as Gordon goes really fast then cuts to pointless clips. I would rather he worked a bit slower and got rid of the clips! I also could not beleive that the dessert included Rhubarb which is totally out of season - we couldnt find it anywhere! So used apples instead. We also didnt know what temperature to set the oven as he didnt say in the programme so we just guessed. Anyway really enjoyed it, but it really could have been much better if it was a bit slower. We will be doing the cookalongs every week so hope to see a few more improvements.

  16. My friends and I had a great laugh following the cook-along. Although we did have to pause and rewind it a lot, which made the timings screw up a bit, so the salmon was overdone, but all in all the food was excellent and - franticness aside - it was pretty easy to make. The only complaints I have is that there could have been some preparation notes on the web-site to make things a bit smoother. At one point Gordon said to put some 'pigs ears' or something in, which seemed like cook's slang for one of the herbs. I had to guess which one, but I think I got it right. And lastly, what would be great is a sort of instruction feed that runs up the side of the screen throughout the programme. Having said all that, I'll be following along for the rest of the series regardless !

  17. I usually enjoy all programmes with Gordon Ramsay but this really changed my opinion. I was looking forward to the first programme but was so disappointed !! It was full of continuous suggestive antics and sexual inuendos between Gordon and Patsy Kensit. In fact, I turned over after about a quarter of the programme has been aired.

  18. My Husband & I cooked along with Gordon we really enjoyed our night, all 3 courses would not have been our choice but we enjoyed our meal & we felt very proud, after the 2nd course we were shattered & full so we saved the dessert till sunday, it was delicious, what a fab night can't wait for the Lasagne. It was the 1st time I have followed a recipe & the 1st my Husband has cooked a meal

  19. Got all prepared ready to go, every item that was listed was out on the counter. The only thing that wasn't on the list was the grater - so that slowed me down. The starters: tasty and satisfying but the goats cheese was overcooked and had come out of it's skin. The main was delicious and easy to make - deffo do that again; although not sure about the raw garlic on the brocolli!?!? The thing that spoilt the whole meal was the pudding; we all (4 of us) did not like the pudding, some didn't like the hazelnut topping, some didn't like the ginger and i just didn't like the whole thing. Great night's entertainment though with friends - just wish it could be a little bit slower and help you become more organised in the kitchen, rather than having to leave a bombsite after rushing every step! Looking forward to tackling the Lasagna on Friday... :-)

  20. Cool idea, good learning opportunity and great fun on the night. Food, delicious. However I agree with other posts, steps should be explained at a slower pace, or it just becomes a big manic Buster Keaton-style comic. Also: - washing/ shredding-type preinstructions should be added to the ingredients list. - Menus should also be cheaper or alternative provided: buying a bottle of rum just to savour some rhubard doesn't seem very credit crunch-savvy to me...and the baked beans tin thing was just infuriating. How about the alternative 'JUST CUT YOUR TOAST SQUARE'? Ah well. Will give it another go this Friday, hopefully there'll be an improvement.

  21. Really enjoyed the cook along experience, my wife and I had a great laugh putting it together and people shouldn't forget that it is meant to be fun as well as a serious cooking programme. I had to Sky it because Gordon's too quick for me and its not easy to cook whilst trying to eat your starter! I also had trouble getting some of the shopping list (British Rhubarb season has ended early apparently!!!). I also got a bit ahead of myself and grated my bramely apple too soon and it turned brown before I could add it to the dressing. The salmon was especially delicious and all in it was great fun. Look forward to this weeks challenge, bring it on Gordon!!

  22. How could you do this without Sky . We stopped and started it every 5 minutes or so. It was excellent fun and the food was amazing. A few suggestions: cut the clips of the non cooking and have them at the end. list of preparation tips eg slice/oven -the show on earlier - eating at 10.30 didn't make of a good nights sleep. -Pick in season ingredients - we struggled with rhubarb and had to settle for frozen. Well done Gordon - something different to do on a Friday night.

  23. Get rid of the time wasting clips, totally unnecessary. If the public is going to learn we need to actaully see what the chef is doing with the food. It's meant to be in real time, so slow down, cut out the rubbish and let us do it in that time.

  24. Loved it... except disappointed that for a chef into fresh food you chose rhubarb in october in england for a live cookalong. I substituted pears fresh off the tree. P.S if you are still pulling rhubarb from the garden - stop. Give the plant a chance to feed it's roots before the winter

  25. As a trained chef I just went along for the fun of it but I do understand how other people can think it was way too fast and the instructions were not the best ones. Obviously the food turned out great and I am definitely looking forward to the next show! Patsy Kensit was a terrible mistake though!

  26. Food turned out great eventually, way too manic, despite the fact that I was very organised I still couldn't keep up, trying to listen to instructions in between the bull celebrity chit chat (this is supposed to be a show for cooking fans not celeb gossip fans) How was anyone supposed to watch the clips in-between the courses, most people were running around trying to catch up. Good fun, but the salad starter wasn't tasty enough to warrant the effort and mayhem involved in making it, Salmon was lovely, as was the dessert, Broccoli and potatoes a bit bland. Less emphasis on the celebrity time wasting and more on the cooking please, lots of people have spent a lot of time and money getting ready for this, we can watch Jonathon Ross after if we want our fill of Celeb chat.

  27. In my opinion, this latest offering from Gordon Ramsay made really poor viewing! With all the pre-series build-up, I was so disappointed with the first episode! I'm no prude but the continuous smutty and suggestive banter between Gordon and Patsy Kensit was completely over done to the point where you just knew that when either of them opened their mouths there was going to be a sexual inuendo of some kind! Thought this was a cookery programme? In fact, the cooking was completely rushed too and it was impossible to keep up! In comparison, Gordon's 'Nightmare Kitchens' series is top viewing!! Really entertaining! It's one of those programmes you never want to end!!

  28. The first cook along was fantastic...It took four of us to create the three scrumptious courses. The food itself was very good, found it a little difficult to keep up, but that just added to the manic fun in our kitchen. I like the way the website is set out and found it helpful to print of the ingrediant list and recipes. I also watched the training videos, glad I did as this helped when 'putting together' the salmon en croute. I am about to start preparing for week 2 and look forward to the rest of the series.

  29. My husband and I had such a laugh doing this on Friday night. Our telly is in the conservatory so we had to watch it through the kitchen window. Consequently we couldn't hear very well and couldn't see either when the windows steamed up! My husband was supposed to do most of the cooking for a change but only grated the apple - spent the rest of the time running round the kitchen in a panic! I bought ready rolled pastry so made up some time. Surprised there are so many posts about rhubarb not being in season - I pulled mine from the garden! Will probably just do one or two courses next week as I can't manage to eat that much at 10pm!

  30. I'm glad I recorded the show as the instructions were rushed - although Gordon did have to try and squeeze them inbetween Patsy Kensits drivel. Like the others a bit more instruction would have been good and for some reason my food took longer to cook than Gordons did on the telly. Looking forward to the next one though -and glad it will cost less to do!

  31. Dreadful show. Gordon's descent from Michelin starred chef to the restaurant world's version of Hello! magazine is complete. Gordon's contived kineticism drove me to distraction. Will make time in my Friday's to be elsewhere. Come on Channel 4. Don't contract a name if you have no decent product for them to present.

  32. Please lose the annoying b-list "celeb". If Gordon needs a non-chef to help slow him down a bit why not use a member of the public? Or at least chose someone that isn't trying to compete for attention. Also please show more of Gordonj actually cooking - too many head & shoulder shots and not enough shots of what he was doing

  33. Mindless. Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too fast, we found it funny for the first few minutes, but I got progressively more annoyed and stressed out by the end. Like others, I had some ingredients left. Could have saved time by getting us to prepare the ingredients a little more (e.g. shred lettuce / cut ginger / herbs / walnuts /have butter at room temp . Didn't expect the pre-ad snippet before the programme started, saying about the oven temp. Glad to see so many other people thought it was rushed, because I don't feel as incapable as I did on Friday night. PLEASE SLOW DOWN in your next programmes Gordon. The pace totally took any fun out of what had the potential to be a great menu and experience. I'll give it another go this Friday. Hubby says he can't believe I am giving you another chance -

  35. Product: 10/10 Presentation: 1/10 Much too rushed. Delia and other chef an unnecessary distraction. Patsy Kensit interaction, utterly nauseating. Better to slow down and include some of the training videos included on this site if you need to pad the time out. Aside from that, an informative and laudable endeavour.

  40. Hi I really enjoyed it HOWEVER it would be nice if the ingredients would be displayed in 2 formats. the whole list for shopping purposes and then per dish: cuantities and how the should be prepared in advance as if you want to follow Gordon in real time cutting, chopping etc at the same time as a michelin starred chef is not quiet possible. I am a realy good home cook and i hae preped my ingredients intuitivelly but i am sure that most people did not and find it a little difficult to follow. so shopping list ingredient list and then per dish list with quantities and preparation needed would be a great help to the general public. many thanks in consideringthis suggestions Alina Meyer-Atkinson

  44. Friday was a manic night and did find it hard to keep up despite being superorganised and having everything chopped up in advance!! Things did go wrong as my butter/basil/dill didn't look as well mixed as Gordon's , the food processor broke down and almost forgot the demerera sugar but the food still tasted fab (particualry the Salmon en croute) and I really did enjoy it even if I was exhausted by the end of the night and my kitchen looked like a bomb site!! Gordon was super fast but this added to the adrenalin rush!!! Will participate again but will focus on one course at a time!!!

  45. Great idea but lots of room for improvement in delivery. If Gordon wants us to cook with him, he needs to give clearer verbal instructions because when cooking you can't be constantly watching the screen. A scrolling banner along the bottom with the last few steps would help those of us who miss a vital piece of info (like the oven temperature) - we did it from a recording and still missed stuff! Great fun though and the results were very tasty even if the presentation wasn't qute as good!

  50. Well, we learned that for the next one we will have to put all the ingredients, weighed out etc in bowls ready to use. We watched it on Sky so we were able to pause and rewind which was essential. The baked bean tin thing was wasteful, we have cutters for that. Not sure what the baby gem lettuce was for, nor the walnut oil. Also Gordon didn't egg wash the pastry in the live bit, but it was in the summary - bit late! Despite all that, we had a great laugh and produced a really tasty meal. We will be taking part again on Friday.

My twin boys (7 years old) told me that your food was too salty...they didn't like the salmon (and believe me, they eat everything i cook) and said that they prefer jamie oliver's recipes (horror!). 53. Once again it was a very enjoyable, if not frantic evening with friends. I was a little disappointed by the equipment list, determined this time to be very organised and keep up we arranged all of the equipment off the list ready to go.. all i can say is thank god we do have a stocked kitchen including a grater, scissors, a rolling pin and a pastry brush, otherwise i think we may have been a bit scuppered! We are keen to do this again, please can the researchers put a bit more effort into the preparation?! we got the impression we were meant to fail, proving how great gordon is..?!

  54. We thought it was great fun, and although it is fast and a bit manic, that is what it is like in a proffessional kitchen. I enjoyed the pressure of trying to live up to Gordon, and that is part of the fun. Food was great, not so difficult that people will be put off trying, but not every day menus.

  55. Had a great time, although I knocked the TV arial off the top of the cupboard and lost the picture for a few minutes, then had to try to keep up. Luckily I printed the recipes off so could catch up that way, in between Delia (Where are you) Smith and the adverts. Great starter, just forgot the apple! Great main course. Didn't do the dessert, as the better half doesn't like rhubarb. The kids loved the broccoli, never had it done that way before. Great! Very funny disguises, but Raymond caught you out! Had the recipes alongside, as I knew it was rather manic, but managed to keep up with the aid of the recipes and watching the videos on channel4.com. I was entertained throughout, although a bit stressed, but all that adreniline is healthy. (Isn't it)? LOL Roll on Friday! Got the mother-in-law over too.

  60. I used Sky to record the show, but it appears channel 4 got the timing wrong because I didn't get to see the dessert. The show came to an abrupt end shortly after returning from the ad break, so after Patsy takes her head off Gordon's shoulder the programme stopped recording. I hope you are able to sort this out by the next show because not all of us can view the programme live, and I am left wondering what the heck happened in the final segment of the programme. Will you please put it on the catch up since it appears to be your timing error leaving me in the dark?

  64. The show was great and everything workout as planned. Gordon talks very quickly for inexperienced cook like me. Could the recipe come up on screen as he talks or be available before the show to be kept on hand? Your list of equipment was missing a rolling pin. This made my life difficult as I don't have one. Ended up using the plastic one the kids use with their playdough! Needs must! Can't wait till next week.

  67. I was really looking forward to the cookalong on Friday night but ended up somewhat disappointed. We were only doing the main course, but still I found it incredibly hard to keep up. I probably should have been better prepared (by the time I had cut the basil you were already spreading the butter on the salmon), but still - a bit less of that manic rush would do the show good. I must say we enjoyed the fish a lot, though.

  69. Why on earth is Cookalong not available on 4OD? I couldnt do the cookalong on Friday, or Saturday when the repeat was on, so was going to do it tonight and watch it online as I cooked. But for reasons best known only to Channel 4 they havent made it available to watch. Very very annoying indeed! Sort it out Channel 4.

I offered to cook him the Gordon Menu. Totally paid off. He has done nothing but smile for the last 24 hours and keeps telling everyone about the menu and how well it tasted (sorry Gordon - apparantly i give you a run for your money). Is cookalong a serious cooking prog or is it some kind of chat show-meets top of the tops-meets comedy-meets who knows what ? I like cooking but i'm not really interested in Patsy Kensit. I like cooking so I want to see one top chef cook well rather than hundreds of amateur chefs ( like me ) cook badly. Sorry but it was just poor and almost pants. 81. Well Gordon, I shall be doing the cookalong tonight (Sat) for 6 friends having recorded the show from last night. The one hiccup I have before I start is that rhubarb is not in season here in the North West! Having searched Sainsburys, Asda, Morrisons, Tesco, the local market and local farm shops - not one stick to be had anywhere! So, I shall be using apples instead!! For your next show can you please make sure all produce is available for us Northener's!!!!! I'm sure we shall have fun!

We set the portable tv up in the kitchen and at 9pm Gordon didn't come on?? We live in Chester but can only get S4C on the portable! So we had to divert Sky to the kitchen and wait for CH4 1 and ate an hour later. Didn't get a chance to eat the starter but got good feedback, salmon was perfect, pudding divine. Carl was very impressed with our efforts and we had great fun!

Think before hand, saves on the car mileage, trekking from store to shop, only to be disappointed, if unsure you could always ask Jamie Oliver!!! Otherwise, good effort.

It was fun and fast in the kitchen but we stayed on top of things with the help of the online recipes when we had missed a bit. Would be much better to use sky plus, but not having it on the TV we used we managed all the same. The starter and desert were stunning,We had substituted tinned rubab as had been unable to find any fresh but it worked really well and the main was nice and looked impressive but maybe a little bland for my taste.Maybe i should have used some more herbs or seasoning. The kitchen is a huge mess, we are both exhausted but i actually managed to cook something that tasted good. It was the first time i had seen my friend eat a salad ever!!!! Had fun with the rhubarb as its apparently out of season, couldnt find frozen either so we used tinned rhubarb!!! not ideal. Thank you so much for doing this series it has inspired me to cook more - unfortunately for everyone else who has to try my food!! - but i loved it. Will be joining you next week. 108. Phew, that was fast! Never before was so happy for every minute of ads... guess Sky + with its pause and rewind live tv really comes into its own with this programme, wish I would have it! That cookalong map doesn't work for me, it seems to have something against Mozilla and Linux? The training videos are fab, wished I would have watched them before the broadcast, especially the one about skinning the salmon! It was nice that there was a summary of what had been done to the salmon before/after the ads, could that have been done more often? The starter was lovely by the way, but just wasn't able to keep up with the speed so the dessert will be on tonight, hopefully the cookalong is on Channel4 On Demand? The pastry went a bit temperamental but in the end behaved itself though it wasn't looking as professional as on TV but a bit patched together. My salmon piece was brilliant never had such a fantastic piece of salmon before! But it was too thick to flip the two halves on top of each other! So my salmon en croute had only one layer, but that means we can have a second helping of it tonight. I am very much looking forward to the Lasagne, and this time will try to print out recipe and prepare ingredients more so I can catch up better. Anyways a very exciting cooking show! Loved the pony in the kitchen and the increasingly frustrated celebrity - could really sympathise with her! I also love that this show rewards socialising and cooking together with friends as you really need several people to a) prepare and b) eat and c) have fun!

Enjoyed the Goats Cheese Salad which surprised me as the cheese itself smelled like the inside of our Friends goat "Colin's) stable!!! The salmon was delicious and definately something i'll make again. I already enjoy cooking and without sounding smug am quite good at it so for us it was more a fun thing that my husband and I could do together. 115. This was a manic attempt at cooking! Was it me - or did I miss most of the instructions? What temp should the oven have been at to cook the salmon and the starter? How much butter should we have used with the herbs for the salmon and how much should we have saved for the crumble? Gordon talked to Patsy but mumbled instructions to the rest of us. I could not keep up and felt that I was under prepared. I had printed off the lists from the website and had measured out all that I thought we needed - but on the night we were still left scrabbling around for extra bits. Having said that we had a good go at guessing what he meant and despite adding garlic to the dressing (we could not hear his instructions clearly) and not taking the salmon out in time, and not cooking the broccoli for long enough, everything tasted very good. We tried everywhere to get rhubarb without success and went for apples instead. I was sure that the baked beans were a hoax and didnt bother opening the tin and used pastry cutters instead for the toast. There were several items of equipment not itemised on the utensils list and I found this was quite a manic night. It was very late to sit down and eat as a family and whilst the ingredients and menus were interesting I am not sure that the chaotic speed and lack of clear instructions will encourage me to "go live" again. Well done Patsy on telling Gordon to slow down - not all of us can work at his pace from day 1 - and he definitely does need to give clearer instructions for each stage.

  117. Brilliant show. Cooking went really well, especially the crumble! Patsy Kensit is an extremely annoying woman though...

  119. Gordon, Please stop slapping/thumping your hands/fists together. ANNOYING!!! It so takes your focus away from the cooking and is irritating. The camera shots need to also focus on the food more to show what it is you're doing, but otherwise - fun.

  120. have just finished our delicious meal, i was ultra prepared and organised ... there would have been no hope if i hadn't been. i confess to making a few improvements Gordon, choosing filo pastry to encase the superb salmon and seasonal fruits apple and blackberry for a scrumptios crumble. naughty but nice. looking forward to next week.

  121. Well i think it should be re-named Rush-along, way too fast!!.For the first time ever my 16 year old showed an interest in cooking so we did everything that was required before the show aired.Unfortunately my son couldn't keep up, both my husband and i had to help which was not what my son wanted. Why did we have to have crap vt's in about getting one over on Delia etc. Without this nonsense Gordon could have gone slightly slower and my son would have enjoyed it more. Such a shame really.Come on Gordon we're not professional's like you.

  124. TTTTTTOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bloody fast! The garlic ended up in the potato's, the cinamon didn't go anywhere while the pudding very nearly had no ginger. If you want to teach us to cook, you'll have to say (clearly) all of the instructions, not just a few of them. We are now exhausted and Peter has tummy ache. And what the hell is a lamb's lettuce? Two supermarkets didn't know, so why would we? Don't know if we will be joining in next week, we will see how we recover. Ta Ra, Sharon

  125. Great fun! Starter and dessert delicious and fairly easy to prepare. Way too much pastry on the salmon though! You went a bit quick for me I am afraid, I intend to do a bit more prep for next week!

  126. Food was fab! We will be doing those recipes again. Pace was way too manic - we have had to leave cooking the crumble until afterwards - it's in the oven now. Maybe the show should be on over a longer time. Lots of laughs though. Looking forward to doing it again!
