Boastful Belgian, Fred, thinks Brits can't cook and all British food is bland. He should go down a storm with his rival hosts on Come Dine With Me in Royal Berkshire
"Would I say English food is bland?" ponders Fred, "Yes. The restaurants here aren't a patch on a bog standard café in Belgium." Charming.
When he's not winning friends in foreign lands, Fred likes to rub shoulders with celebrities like Anthony Worrall-Thompson. Fuss-pot Fred might not rate our nation's cooking, but that doesn't stop him asking for mashed potato tips from the (British) celebrity chef.
"Is tonight sponsored by AWT?" teases Tony.
It certainly wasn't sponsored by British Gas - Fred's famous mash is cold.
After being bowled over by rival Tony's slap-up feast, Fred knows the heat is on and he's determined to dazzle his guests with the superior culinary skills of the Belgians. He's taken the bold decision to serve steak tartare canapés on his menu, despite expecting it to be a flop.
"Eating raw meat is normal for Belgians and French people," he says smugly.
Yes, Fred, but your guests aren't French or Belgian.
Someone who won't be scoffing the delicacy, is posh princess, Sarah. Finishing school might have given her the ability to 'spot a pleb at ten places' but it didn't teach her not to talk about poo or being sick, with strangers at the dinner table.
When bubbly Helen finds herself weeping and talking about the war, it looks like Fred's hosting skills might have gone off the boil. But he's not worried. In fact he thinks he's got this competition in the bag. There's optimism for you.

After his steak tartare canapés, Fred served pan-fried scallops with pancetta dust.

Nothing but the finest cut of meat will do. Chateaubriand with homemade béarnaise sauce and horseradish mash comes courtesy of Fred's pal, Anthony Worrall-Thompson.

Fred tries to blow his guests out of the competition with his chocolate bombe.
Unfortunately we can't bring you Fred's dessert but try this
chocolate ice cream cake recipe.
