Soccer legend, Rodney Marsh, is famous for his provocative performances on and off the pitch. Can the cooking virgin score some points in the celebrity Come Dine With Me kitchen?

Soccer legend, Rodney Marsh, is the first celebrity chef hoping to score some points in the kitchen but, as this is his first time in front of an oven, it's going to be a tough match. Luckily daughter, Jo, is on hand to answer the budding cook's penetrating questions, show him what a shallot is, that sort of thing.

Proud of his reputation for being outspoken and controversial, Rodney admits he has a tendency to 'push the envelope' a bit too far. "I like to throw out hand grenades and see who picks them up and runs with them," he explains. Presumably only those with a death wish.

In keeping with his contentious credentials Rodney's decided to leave the cooking until his guests arrive, so spends the hours before their arrival having a kip. Fully rested and relaxed he puts the final touches to his seven dwarves-themed seating plan - Grumpy, Dopey… if only there was a Hungry.

Starters are served and it's not long before the celebs are discussing their favourite topic – themselves. "According to the internet I've starred in a film titled 'Cannibal women in the avocado jungle of death'," says a bemused Paul. "Well, the number of journalists who've slaughtered you in the years, eh?" Rodney tells a crestfallen Abi. What a charmer.

What the footballing veteran lacks in tact he certainly doesn't make up for in the kitchen and before long Linda has to step in with some culinary tips. His guests survive the night, just, but will his reliance on the opposition cost him precious points?

Starter

Prawns

To get his party started Rodney cooked up a Japanese influenced dish of Miren sautéed prawns.

Main Course

Asian beef

For his first attempt at main course cooking Rodney served Asian spiced seared beef fillet with vegetables and rice.

Dessert

Pavlova

It's an East End classic for Rodney's pud – Poplar pie. Or fruit pavlova to everybody else. Unfortunately we cannot bring you Rodney's version for copyright reasons. But for a similarly delicious dessert try these berry pavlova squares with Cointreau coulis.
