Sales manager, Kate Hibbert, from Come Dine With Me Portsmouth is used to working in quality control so when it comes to ingredients, only the best will do. "I think I probably am a food snob," she admits.
And she has good reason. Kate's used to eating the best the garden has to offer as her dad used to be TV gardener. Eager to please her guests, Kate digs up lots of goodies from her dad's garden and even takes a trip to a Hampshire vineyard to procure some local wine.
Kate muses on the night ahead and decides the worst case scenario would involve someone from her past. "My worst nightmare would be opening to door to someone I'd snogged," she decides.
But Kate hadn't banked on nightmares of the culinary kind and as she prepares her goat's cheese starter, the baking parchment underneath goes up in flames. "I've completely lost control," she cries, aghast.
Luckily Kate gets it together in time for her guests' arrival and everyone seems to be getting on well. All except Lynne, who spends the evening stifling a yawn. Lee thinks she's shy and hopes he'll be able to bring her out of her shell. Maria's feeling less accommodating: "Don't leave her to me," she warns, "or I'll beat her up."

To start the evening Kate served baked goat's cheese wrapped in Parma ham on a pear and walnut salad.

It was a local dish for main of posh Pompey fish pie with pea puree and wilted seasonal greens. Unfortunately we can’t bring you this dish for copyright reasons, but try this fish pie instead.

To finish with a citrus twist, Kate served cinnamon spiced oranges with fresh blueberries and pomegranate accompanied by an English rosé.
