Drama teacher, Matthew, from Come Dine With Me - Manchester, is eager to impress and won't be thought average at any costs. "If anybody described my food as mediocre I'd be furious," he trills. His secret for success is a good list… or five
Ever the teacher, Matthew plans his party to the letter, making list after list after list until he's got a hefty pile of paper work. It's a meal you're making Matthew, not a book. Every time he completes a task he ticks it off the list till the only thing left to do his hair. Clay – check. Gel – check. Spray – check.
The guests arrive and within minutes Dave's eyed the piano and is having a tinkle. Matthew heads back to the kitchen leaving his guests unattended and it's not long before last night's tensions resurface. "I'm a member of Mensa," announces Shaida somewhat haughtily. "They always say the cleverest people are the dullest," swipes Chris. The bitch.
Next it's Dave's turn to have a pop, this time over Shaida's age. "42," he guesses with a grin. By the look on her face he's overestimated. Can his silver tongue charm her round? "You need to do more exercise," he concludes. That's a no then.
Dessert arrives just in time to lighten the mood and the guests are impressed - but has Matthew's cooking outstripped his hosting?

After greeting his guests with a Kir Royale, Matthew served Cheshire cheese and leek tarts with vine tomatoes.

It was lemon and pepper lamb fillet for main with boulangere potatoes, creamed spinach and carrots.

Matthew made a mysterious Indian dessert of passion fruit bhapa doi with dark chocolate mousse. Unfortunately, we can't bring you Matthew's dessert for copyright reasons but for a similar dish try this baked cheesecake recipe instead.
