Traditional town crier, Adrian Dando, believes nothing beats good British cuisine and he's determined to impress his guests with some hearty, home cooked fare. Hearty it may be but he's not a believer in avid preparation. "I use whatever I've got to hand, mix and match," admits Adrian while assembling his vaguely titled 'canapés'.

A Somerset lad through and through, Adrian's greeting his guests with a glass of good old scrumpy cider, followed by English classics - stilton and celery soup, chicken in mushroom sauce (with a bit more cider) all finished off with some jam roly poly. Just like grandma used to make.

Dressed in his work clothes Adrian rings his guests with an optimistic 'oyez, oyez!'. But despite the feathers and the bell he's still not as snappily dressed as Sarah.

As the guests get stuck in to their scrumpy, Adrian's cat gets stuck in to the smoked salmon canapés. What's a few hairs on the plate between friends? Hairs on the plate may be forgiven but will Simon's cavalier attitude towards the environment be so graciously accepted?

Starter

Celery and stilton soup

Adrian serves smoked salmon canapés to start with an aperitif of Lillet and a bowl of stilton and celery soup with homemade croutons. Unfortunately we can't bring you Adrian's soup recipe but try this leek and stilton version instead.

Main Course

Butterfly chicken

For the main, it's butterfly chicken breast with cider and mushroom sauce, potato rosti and roast vegetables.

Dessert

Jam roly poly

Finally, to finish, Adrian serves jam roly poly, dusted and served with strawberries and clotted cream, accompanied by a Muscat de Beaumes de Venise dessert wine, all topped off with port and local cheeses. Unfortunately, we can't bring you Adrian's recipe but try this jam roll recipe instead.
