It’s the half way point of this week’s cook-off in Cardiff, and tonight it’s the turn of ex-merchant navy seaman Jim Blythe to try and steady the ship after a rocky two days. Last night crystal-healer Annette Howard failed to impress with her menu of prawn cocktail and fried chicken, and with the Cardiff natives now both hungry and restless, Jim has a job on his hands to restore calm.

To try and boost flagging spirits, Jim bravely decides to gamble with his menu by serving up some exotic and unusual dishes inspired from his time on the open waves. Most controversial of all is his Brazilian chicken dish, which is accompanied by some root vegetable called manioc that contains cyanide! Jim battles with his conscience and does finally admit to his guests what he’s serving them, but not until they’ve all eaten some!

So will Jim’s cyanide-fuelled gamble prove too much for his already hungry guests? Or will his mysterious menu sweep them off their feet and see him sail into first place?
