In Castille quality doesn’t come much higher than in the region's most expensive export - saffron.
In the UK, 1kg of saffron can cost up to £2500. Taken from the stigmas of crocus flowers, saffron is so expensive because once the flower is in bloom, it has to be picked within an hour and a half or the spice is ruined.
