Layered in a sponge cake or simply spread on bread; nothing beats a spoonful of strawberry jam. Grab your pinny and prepare to get sticky, it's time to make jam.
Setting up
To fill three 500ml jars, you'll need 1.1kg fresh strawberries (try to get them a little under-ripe) or other seasonal berries, 1.1kg jam-making sugar and the juice of 1 large lemon.
You'll also need a preserving pan, jam funnel, large ladle, 3 or 4 small plates, a wooden spoon, 3 x 500ml Kilner jars, or 6 x 250ml jam jars, plus wax discs and cellophane.
It's a good idea to pop the plates in the freezer, so they're chilled and ready to test the jam later.
