Avoid unhealthy fry-ups and go for simple and choose tasty breakfasts instead

Recent food headlines have suggested that eating bacon and sausages, staples of the full English breakfast, can be extremely bad for you, significantly raising the risk of colon disease as well as contributing to obesity. A five year survey by the World Cancer Research Fund found that there was an increased risk of cancer in people who ate processed meats and recommended avoiding these foods altogether.

So what can be done? Take a trip from Mediterranean countries. Incidences of bowel and colon cancer in Mediterranean countries are, unsurprisingly, significantly lower. Last year, diagnoses of bowel cancer were three times higher in Britain than in Italy or Greece.

Breakfast staples in these countries are fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals, grains and natural honey. Not only are these healthy options, they also make breakfast quick and easy to prepare. No slaving away over an oven or frying pan; instead, simple, economical ingredients can be put together quickly for a delicious morning meal.

Just because something's healthy doesn't mean it can't be yummy. The recently launched Love Dean granola is designed to be high in fibre with no added sugar or salt, and no trans-fat acids. Delicious on its own and in its cranberry and date & apple ranges, granola also works as a tasty accompaniment to yoghurt, honey, fruit and other cereals.

So next time you're thinking of having a greasy, gut-busting fry-up, think twice and try a tastier, healthier and more interesting alternative. Chances are you'll be very pleasantly surprised.
