Considered a delicacy from Hawaii to Portugal, limpets are commonly found off the coast of Cornwall, clinging to rocks or other hard ground.
Conscious of the common good, limpets help to keep our beaches clean, munching on algae and other seaweeds. However, a series of oil spills has decimated their numbers, so we should consider ourselves lucky to still have them.
Like other seaside snacks, they taste at their best eaten simply with a splash of salt and vinegar. But for something a little flasher, try Hugh's recipe for limpet stew.
