As every bird watcher knows getting stuck into the grog when you're out browsing for buzzards just isn't the done thing. But what if you could have a naughty nip on the sly? These imitation binoculars were used by 1920s race goers keen to keep their trackside tipple hush hush but they could work wonders for spicing up bird spotting too. No wonder Bill Oddie always looks so happy with his tits.

Like the equivalent 'pie safe', it was designed to keep the enclosed food safe from isnects and rodents whilst they were held in a cool, dark, place, like a butter pantry or a basement.

Back when toasts were made over an open fire, at least a small amount of inedible char was impossible to avoid---crust scraping was really necessary.
